Re-use permission and copyright are assigned to your organisation by the contributor at the time of video submission upload
This is what makes Vloggi so great. Vloggi contains a legal content assignment form that all contributors sign prior to their file being uploaded. By ticking the box, they are signing over their rights over the footage to you irrevocably.
You can read the full Vloggi Content Assignment Form here. Your contributors can also read and download this form for their convenience.
You can download a copy of the e-signed permissions at any time as a project report that contains the name provided by the contributor plus the IP address of the contributor. Taken together, these provide sufficient legal cover in most use cases that you have sought to identify the contributor. This convention forms the basis of our Content Assignment Form.
You can also request e-mail addresses and also display attribution as an overlay on video files.
However, please consult your own legal department prior to publishing any content if you live in a jurisdiction that differs significantly from this convention.
It’s a much stronger strategy and overall time-saver, in comparison to contacting people on social media channels or via email to ask if you can borrow and use their videos. You no longer have to maintain a record either, your project report updates in real time together with a timestamp.
By contributing to your project, your contributors acknowledge the transfer of their intellectual property rights to you for use anywhere you choose to post them. In the example below, the client name TM Creates, would be replaced with the title of your organization as set in your team settings.
Whether you recompense content contributors for their footage is a commercial decision for your organization. Vloggi contains an incentive box in its landing page builder that remains invisible if not filled in. This is a free form box and is at your discretion. Typically, this falls into one of three use cases:
- When collecting video submissions from your customers, some form of payment is greatly recommended to maximize take-up. The most common technique is to use Vloggi’s Video Contest tools and award a prize for the best content per week, per month or in total. You can also offer a flat payment for any clip used.
- When collecting video submissions from your colleagues, it is generally not required to offer a monetary incentive, but rather some kind of nudge such as “best clips get used in convention video” or “all’ feedback valued”
- When collecting video submissions from your community, it can be a mix of the two approached. Those collecting videos for a common cause generally do not require incentives, as the community is submitting footage for the common goal, whereas commercial entities activating their online community can boost submission numbers by adding a money-can’t-buy prize or behind-the-scenes experience.
Also, by providing an incentive to contributors through prizes or complementary product giveaways, your conscience will feel a lot better when using the videos for marketing.

Some key things to understand about re-use permissions for video submissions:
- You may add supplementary terms and conditions if your requirements go beyond the standard Vloggi terms. Typically these are public institutions or those expecting video submissions from minors. To add extra terms and conditions, host your own T&Cs and add a link to this page in the “terms and conditions” field of the landing page builder.
- Footage filmed in public places is usually permissible to use, even if people are featured, so long as they are not the subject of the film. This reportage rule varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but most countries allow for fair representation of public places.
- We will be working on a model release form integrated into the platform for those people who are clearly identified. When writing a project brief for contests, property rights can be granted by the client via their terms and conditions.
- Your Content Assignment Form is legally binding even if the contributor enters false information. In other words, if the contributor entered “Mickey Mouse” into the name field and then used a VPN to mask their IP address, you have taken every reasonable step to allow them to provide accurate information.
